The soundtrack was composed by Vishal-Shekhar with the lyrics penned by Anvita Dutt Guptan. “The Disco Song” is a revamped cover version of “Disco Deewane” (1981) by Pakistani pop singer Nazia Hassan, incorporating her vocals along with those of Sunidhi Chauhan and Benny Dayal.

The soundtrack received positive reviews from music critics. Joginder Tuteja of Bollywood Hungama gave the album 4/5 stars, saying that “Student of the Year is a winner with Vishal Shekhar (yet again!) justifying their stance of doing a few films but lending quality sound to it. They create the kind of score which totally compliments the mood of the campus setting without straying even once.” IANS of CNN-IBN gave the album 4/5 stars, concluding that “The soundtrack of Student of the Year is a good mix with very minor flaws that can surely be ignored to enjoy the music that perfectly describes the mood of the movie.” Satyajit of Yahoo! gave the album 3.5/5 stars, stating that “Student of the Year is complete youthful musical entertainment, an album that brings all the positive elements of a typical Karan Johar entertainer. Vishal Shekhar delivers a potential winner this time.”

The romantic track “Ishq Wala Love” became the biggest hit of the album followed by “Radha” and “The Disco Song”. On 26 September 2012, The Times of India reported that the soundtrack was “appealing to people of all tastes and there’s something for everyone in it”.

Radha lyrics
Gopiyon sang ghoome Kanhaiya
Radha on the dance floor
Radha auf der Tanzfläche
Radha likes to party
Radha mag es Party zu machen
Radha likes to move that sexy/desi Radha body

And everybody blames it on Radha
Und jeder macht Radha dafür verantwortlich
Chhede hai hamka daiyya, bairi Kanhaiyya
And everybody blames it on Radha
Hamka to laage bore

O Radha teri chunri
Oh Radha dein Schal
O Radha tera Chhalla
Oh Radha dein Ring
O Radha teri natkhat nazariya
Oh Radha dein unanständiger Blick
O Radha tera jhumka
Oh Radha dein Ohrring
O Radha tera thumka
Oh Radha das Wackeln deiner Taille
O peechhe peechhe saari nagariya
Das ganze Dorf ist hinter dir her

Radha on the dance floor
Radha auf der Tanzfläche
Radha likes to party
Radha mag es Party zu machen
Radha likes to move that sexy/desi Radha body

Kehte hain makhan chor
Er wird Butter Dieb genannt
Bajaaye baansuri
Er spielt die Flöte
Bada aaya chit chor
But Radha wants more
Aber Radha möchte mehr

Dhoondhoongi chaaron ore
Ich werde überall gucken
Milega koi aur
Ich werde jemand anderen finden
Doongi main haathon mein
Ich werde ihm in seine Hände
Mere dil ki ye dor
Dieses Band zu meinem Herzen geben
’cause Radha wants more
Weil Radha mehr will

O Radha Radha bholi deewani hai
Oh Radha Radha ist eine unschuldige Verrückte
O Radha Radha do pal jawani hai
Oh Radha Radha, es sind zwei Momente der Jugend
O Radha ko sambhaalo
Jemand soll Radha kontrollieren
Koi ise bata do

Radha on the dance floor
Radha auf der Tanzfläche
Radha likes to party
Radha mag es Party zu machen
Radha likes to move that sexy/desi Radha body

Hey Radha Radha kaahe itna guroor bhala
Hey Radha Radha, warum so viel Stolz?
Toone kya socha ik tu hi mashhoor yahan
Ho saari hi duniya ye maani hai
Die ganze Welt hat es nun zugegeben
Shuru hum se teri kahaani hai
Deine ganze Geschichte beginnt nur mit mir
O rehne de re kanha
Oh lass es, lieber Krishna
Bhoolega tu sataana
Du wirst vergessen mich in Schwierigkeiten zu bringen
Jo giroongi main ban ke bijuria
Sobald ich auf dich falle, wie Elektrizität

Student of the Year is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama film directed by Karan Johar, based on a story by Johar and a script by Rensil D’Silva and Niranjan Iyengar, and produced by Hiroo Yash Johar under the banner of Dharma Productions and Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment. The film stars debutantes Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, and also features Rishi Kapoor, Sana Saeed, Ronit Roy, Sahil Anand, Ram Kapoor and Farida Jalal in major supporting roles, with Boman Irani, Kajol, Farah Khan and Vaibhavi Merchant in guest appearances. This was Johar’s first and only feature film directorial venture without Shah Rukh Khan, as his next film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) had Khan in a cameo appearance.

Student of the Year was released on 19 October 2012 in over 1400 locations across India. It was one of the highest-grossing Bollywood film of year 2012.

A temporally unrelated sequel, Student of the Year 2, helmed by Johar’s protege and I Hate Luv Storys (2010) & Gori Tere Pyaar Mein (2013) director Punit Malhotra, was released on 10 May 2019, as a quasi-sequel, starring Tiger Shroff alongside debutantes Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey.
